Here are just some of the ways in which our Lavonia, Conyers, Loganville, GA, sleep medicine team can treat your sleep apnea,
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) Therapy
CPAP therapy is still the most commonly used sleep apnea treatment. This device uses a breathing mask that connects to a machine that pushes a steady stream of pressurized oxygen through a tube that connects with the mask, to keep airways open as you sleep. After the first use, you should notice that you feel more refreshed after a good night’s sleep. You’ll continue to see improvement for the next couple of weeks of use. Since there is no cure for sleep apnea, individuals with sleep apnea will need to use CPAP therapy every night. CPAP therapy is ideal for all forms of sleep apnea, from mild to more severe.
Oral Appliance Therapy
Oral appliance therapy is quickly gaining popularity as another effective treatment option for sleep apnea. Instead of wearing a breathing mask over your face, you’ll wear a custom-designed oral device that fits over your upper and lower teeth to keep your airways open while you sleep. This device, however, is only recommended for those with mild to moderate forms of obstructive sleep apnea; however, our team may recommend oral appliance therapy in combination with CPAP therapy if you don’t see results through CPAP therapy alone.
Implantable Device
You may be seeing commercials for a new device called Inspire that can keep your airways open while you sleep with just the click of a button. This device is surgically placed directly under the skin through tiny incisions. You then use a remote to turn on the device before bedtime. The device stimulates these airways, keeping them open while you sleep. Implanting the device is simple and is a quick outpatient procedure. Talk with our Lavonia, Conyers, Loganville, GA, sleep medicine specialists to determine if Inspire could be ideal for you.
